Risers

Tai Tuivasa

Shoeys, knockouts, jokes, and fantasy points. Tai has got it all. A rising star in the heavyweight division also finds himself high in our rankings. Tuivasa comes to bang, looking for the KO each fight, and his last 5 wins have landed that result. He would’ve been slotted higher if he were in line for a title shot but it looks like he’s got a few more shoeys before that big moment.

Marcin Tybura

Taking a chance here but Marcin was on a 5-fight win-streak prior to his unanimous decision loss to Volkov. He’s fighting Jairhinzo at UFC 273 which seems like a favourable matchup for the polish fighter. He also fought 4 times in 2020 and only twice in 2021, meaning we might see a more active Tybura this year. If he gets a strong win in his next bout, Marcin could be a sleeper pick for 2022.

Tom Aspinall

7 fight winstreak, 4-0 in the UFC and all wins by KO or SUB, Tom Aspinall is a fantasy gem in the heavyweight division. He’s only gone oast the first round in 1 of his last 7 which was against the great Andrei Arlovski. Tom is new to the division but put him in your draft rankings or if he’s a free agent pick him up. His next bout is against Volkov at home in London England in March. Easy pick.

Fallers

Stipe Miocic

Who? A fighter once praised as the baddest man of all time, greatest heavyweight to ever fight in the promotion, has disappeared. His last fight was when he lost the title to Francis at UFC 260. That was less then one year ago but has felt like eternity.

Fantasy owners will be frustrated with the lack of activity but also you should all be terrified for his next fight. Francis Ngannou trilogy, Jon Jones first fight as a heavyweight, or a redemption seeking Ciryl Gane. Oof.

Derrick Lewis

This one hurts. I wish Derrick could never lose, that he could just knockout everyone and deliver hilarious posy fight interviews. Sadly, fighters are starting to out hit him and lately he doesn’t seem capable (or willing) to take a lot of punishment. WIth recent losses to Gane and Tuivasa, the Black Beast has fallen in rank. Regardles, we still cheer for him every fight.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik

Unreliable. Jairzinho has had a few valuable performances with a couple of knockouts but each good performance has come with a very, very bad one. Remember when he was run over by francis? Yikes. His slow pace, counter punch style doesn’t always work out and generates low fantasy totals. Next up is Marcin Tybura who will likely out-wrestle Rozenstruik.

Newcomers

Jon Jones

It’s time to see the return of one of history’s best MMA fighters, and this time around he’s gained some extra pounds. No, Jon doesn’t have a fight booked. Yes, he constantly has legal issues. But we expect him to return to the octagon sometime this year and to fight for the belt.

With rumors of Francis Ngannou not staying with the promotion, Jon Jones could find himself fighting for the interim title against former challenger Ciryl Gane or former champ Stipe Miocic this summer. In both those scenarios, we have Bones winning and racking up fantasy points. Drafting Jones high is a bold play but could have a great fantasy ROI.
